Cases
One of the leading US natural & organic food stores has partnered with Buro del Rey to complete its organic Fairtrade private label chocolate bar line. Buro del Rey closed a deal with Swiss based PRONATEC resulting in the launch of a complete Fairtrade organic chocolate bar line in 300 US stores in October 2018.
ANNONA SUSTAINABLE INVESTMENTS BV is a Venture Capital Fund that invests in small- and medium enterprises in the Food and Agri supply chain in Africa and Latin America. As of 2012 Buro de Rey has been responsible for sourcing, advise and management of Annona investments (both equity and debt) in Latin American Agri-Food companies in Mexico, Peru, Bolivia and Colombia. Socio-economic impact in combination with return on investments in specialty coffee growing and exporting companies, (organic) fruits and vegetable processing (IQF) companies have outperformed markets and been awarded ‘Top 50 Best for the World Funds 2017‘ by B Lab.
Buro del Rey founder Maurits de Koning has a seat in the boards of BIOSTEVIA (Colombia) and AGRICAFÉ (Bolivia). As board member with over 20 years experience in agricultural development and supply chains, Maurits oversees (strategic) direction of companies, vision, mission and realization of goals. Part of Buro del Rey’s pro-active board membership is, in close collaboration with MT, launching new products and exploring new markets and business opportunities.
The DUTCH STATE DEPARTMENT has asked Buro del Rey to advise its investment office CBI in the capacity of sector expert cocoa. Part of this role is to help CBI strengthen the competitive capacity of SME cocoa exporters and producers in Latin American countries. Key focus areas are fine flavor cacao and (access to) European markets. Buro del Rey has also been part of a ROYAL TROPICAL INSTITUTE (KIT) research team for a “Scoping and & feasibility study of SME development in the cocoa service provision sector in Ghana” conducted and funded by MARKS & SPENCER and SOLIDARIDAD.

About Buro del Rey
Buro del Rey is founded and owned by Maurits de Koning. Maurits is a business economist, cultural anthropologist and entrepreneur, with over 20 years of experience in market and business development, international sales, investment management and sustainable economic development, in Europe, the US and Latin America. Maurits has made substantial contributions to the growth of Buro del Rey’s clients.
Maurits is also (co-)founder and (co-)owner of ‘El Castillo del Cacao’, a chocolate brand and factory in Nicaragua. Maurits shares his knowledge of cacao and chocolate through workshops for government agencies and with corporate clients as broker or agent.
